Video Games 1973

Video Games 1973: Konami was established on March 19 by Kagemasa Kozuki. Formerly he was an owner of a jukebox repair/rental business in Osaka, Japan. Hudson Soft was established in May at Sapporo, Japan. Taito, previously an electro-mechanical arcade game manufacturer, enters the video game industry and opens a North American branch.

Other Video Games 1973

Sega, another electro-mechanical arcade game manufacturer, enters the video game industry with Pong clones. John Daleske developed Empire versions I, II and III for the PLATO system. Atari

Atari releases Gotcha, the first commercial maze game, to video arcades. Gotcha was not commercially successful. Later sources have described it as receiving a “lukewarm reception” and “arousing little more than controversy”. However, Ralph Baer claims it sold 3,000 units. Atari releases PONG Doubles to video arcades. A variation on the wildly successful PONG, PONG Doubles is the first video arcade game to include four-player gameplay. Atari also releases Space Race, the first Arcade Racing game ever.
